Abbey Road Red Hackathon 9-10 November 2019
The Power of Immersion
In the same studio which witnessed the biggest innovations in recording technology we will be working non stop for 36 hours toplaying with Facebook SPARK, 3D, game engines, light hacking, spatial audio to push the boundaries of immersion and give artists new tools of multidimensional expression.
From Mono to Spatial Audio at Abbey Road
Studio Two, the room with the most recognisable sound in the world, seen the biggest milestones in the recording industry: from the first ever stereo recording in 1935 to the pioneering quadrophonic recording of The Dark Side of The Moon. Continuing the legacy of immersive innovation The Abbey Road Spatial Audio Forum was set up in 2017, to find new creative approaches within three-dimensional sound. We aim to ensure that musicians and engineers know how best to approach recording and mixing for 3D and, by sharing the results of our investigations, we hope to inspire the creation of next generation immersive spatial music. Now, at the Abbey Road Hackathon we will be showcasing our experiments and opening up our demos to participants and artists in the room.
Abbey Road Red
Inspired by the original in-house audio R&D team called Record Engineering Development Department of the 1950s to 1970s, Abbey Road Red was set up in 2015 to build relationships with those innovating around music and emerging technologies.
Abbey Road Red is Europe’s first ever incubation programme for audio tech start-ups, spanning the gamut of technologies from audio signal processing to machine learning, adaptive and generative composition, lyric visualisation, 3D playback and spatial projection.
